1. What this app is for

One flock, from chick placement to the last load out: where the money went, how the birds are growing, which day the vaccination is due, when it pays best to sell. All the things that normally sit scattered across a notebook, a whiteboard, a messaging thread and your own memory, gathered onto one phone.

Three things set it apart from an ordinary bookkeeping app:

  1. Benchmarked to breeder standards. Body weight, mortality and FCR are compared day by day with the official performance objectives for the breed (AA+ / Ross 308 slow-feathering / Cobb 500), instead of just handing you a number.
  2. It reminds and it interprets. Problems surface by themselves, vaccinations and treatments push a reminder as they come due, and house temperature and air speed are assessed against target.
  3. It works down to the individual bird. Not just gross margin — employer insurance contributions, fixed overheads and solar income are all apportioned to give net profit per bird.

Before you have placed a flock, the home screen offers "See what a filled-in flock looks like". It loads a worked example — three houses, 30,000 birds, day 28 — so you can walk through losses, the growth curve, costs, net profit and the sell-or-hold calculator with real numbers in place.

After the first flock: "Do this next"

Creating your first flock puts a three-step card on the home screen: create the flock, log the first losses, take the first weighing. Each one ticks off as you do it, and the card retires itself once all three are done.

4. Feature by feature

1. Creating a flock and running multiple houses

2. Logging daily losses (tile 1)

Voice entry: in the house, with dirty hands, tap the microphone at the top right. Say "three dead, one culled" or "two dead two culled" and it understands either. The recognised numbers are shown for you to confirm and are only written once you tap Apply. Speech recognition is provided by the phone's own system; the app stores only the figures you confirm.

Enter the house once (top right): length, width and height in metres, whether it has a ceiling, and how many fans of what diameter. A rated airflow figure from the fan plate (CMH) makes it more accurate.

After that, just log the temperature on each walk-through: humidity and air speed can be left blank, and you can log as many times a day as you like.

Every line states the measured value against the target value, and where there is a problem it gives a specific action. The assessment is rule-based and all the rules are written out in
docs/ENVIRONMENT_ASSESSMENT_SPEC.md, so a vet can check them line by line and disagree with them — there is no black-box AI in here.

⚠️ This is whole-house temperature. Under spot brooders it will be warmer, and the assessment does not replace watching the birds: huddling means cold, panting and spreading out means hot. The birds have the final say.

When you create the next flock, the hardware details for a house of the same name are carried over, so there is nothing to re-enter.

Six classes of problem are detected automatically, against Aviagen standards:

Each one comes with likely causes, a checklist to work through in the house, and whether to call the vet — 22 rules in all; the full list is in section 11.

They can be cleared: each item can be set to "stop reminding me for this flock", "stop reminding me for all flocks", or "pin to the top". Anything switched off can be brought back at any time under "Settings" → "Muted alerts".

9. Frequently asked questions

Q: Does it work with no signal?
Yes. Everything runs offline; only sharing a PDF needs a connection.

Q: Will I lose data if I forget to hit Save?
The daily log saves itself. Other forms prompt you before you leave.

Q: How many times a day can I log the environment?
As often as you like. The assessment uses the latest reading, and the day's high, low and day-night difference are shown separately.

Q: Is "day 1" of the vaccination programme placement day or the day after?
Placement day counts as day 1.

Q: With several houses, how is average weight calculated?
The home screen shows the weighted average across the whole farm; the per-house summary shows each house's own figures.

Q: What do I do when I change phones?
On the old phone, "Settings" → "Backup" to export the JSON; install on the new phone and use "Restore".

Q: When does the trial start counting?
Forty days from the day you create your first flock. Install it and leave it and nothing counts down.

Q: Can the sample tour mess up my own records?
No. It runs on a separate store that is discarded the moment you leave the tour. It is never written to your database and never appears in a backup.

Q: If the trial ends and I do not subscribe, do I lose the data?
No. The app becomes read-only: everything stays visible and exportable, you simply cannot add or edit. Subscribing restores it at once.

Today it is one phone per farm and the owner does the recording. A later release will add farmhand reporting so the people in the houses can record too:

11. Anomaly rules in full (22 rules)

This section lays out every anomaly rule built into the app so that veterinarians, feed and animal-health suppliers can audit them line by line. Each of the six anomaly classes has one trigger; once triggered, all 3–4 “possible causes” under that class are shown together with an on-farm checklist and a note on whether a vet is needed, for the farm to rule out one by one. The rules are based on the Aviagen handbooks and general poultry veterinary knowledge and are for reference only; real cases must be assessed by a licensed veterinarian.

This section is generated from the app source, so the wording matches what the app shows. Corrections and additional rules are welcome.

Early mortality high (4 rules)

Vet: If 24-hour mortality exceeds 1%, contact a vet and refrigerate (do not freeze) 5–10 fresh carcasses for testing.

2. Improper brooding temperature (too cold or hot) causing huddling or dehydration

Vet: Temperature issues do not need a vet — adjust equipment first; persistent mortality means rule out yolk sac infection.

3. Poor drinking-water management (pressure / quality / insufficient training-to-drink)
